A jury in New York has convicted 33-year-old Douglass Mackey of “conspiracy against rights” for posting a meme during the 2016 Presidential Election which the prosecution claimed was an attempt to disenfranchise Hillary Clinton voters.
Mackey, who had approximately 58,000 Twitter followers, posted the meme in 2016, but was not arrested and charged until just one week after Joe Biden was sworn in as POTUS in 2021.
In the meme, Mackey suggested Hillary voters could “skip the line” at the polls and vote for Hillary by texting “Hillary” to 59925.
Apparently the prosecution believed (and the jurors agreed) that Hillary voters were too stupid to know you couldn’t vote via text message, and would not think it strange at all that the person tweeting a meme about Hillary was wearing a MAGA hat in his profile picture.
