California Governor Gavin Newsom is condemning Florida Governor Ron Desantis for shipping 50 “migrants” to Martha’s Vineyard, claiming his actions are essentially kidnapping and human trafficking.
However, while serving as mayor of San Fransisco, Gavin Newsom implemented a program he called “Homeward Bound” in which he shipped more than 11,000 of the city’s homeless around the country.*
But Newsom only “relocated” San Fransisco homeless who agreed to be relocated, while DeSantis rounded up newly arrived migrants and forced them to go to Martha’s Vineyard. Right?
Well….
All the migrants who were flown to Martha’s Vineyard went willingly and were given multiple opportunities to change their mind ( and a number of them did). They were homeless, hungry, and sleeping outside in parking lots and on sidewalks. The ones that chose to go were told they would be going to a sanctuary city in Massachusetts. They signed consent forms and were provided information about benefits available in Massachusetts as well as phone numbers for state and local agencies and local support organizations that provide support to migrants.
So Governor Newsom accused Governor Ron Desantis of human trafficking for transporting 50 homeless migrants to Martha’s Vineyard. Yet Mayor Newsom was personally responsible for transporting over 11,000 homeless people in San Francisco around the country, and feels he did nothing wrong.
This reminds me of when Vice President Biden threatened to withhold aid to Ukraine unless they fired the state prosecutor investigating the company for which his son was a member of the board of directors (and Democrats insist he did nothing wrong). Yet when President Trump asked Ukraine to help investigate Biden for abusing his authority when he threatening to withhold aid unless a state prosecutor was fired, Democrats claim Trump was abusing HIS authority.
