On Monday, during the North American Leaders’ Summit, Biden insisted we need to make it easier for migrants to cross the border, and that we need to open up our capacity. He explained that immigrants endure great hardships to cross the US border, so he is trying to make it easier for them.
*During Obama’s first 2 years (in his second term): a little more than one million illegal immigrants (1,064,827) crossed the US/Mexico Border.
*During Trump’s first 2 years in office, less than one million illegal immigrants (921,844) crossed the US/Mexico Border.
*After less than 2 years in office (Dec 2022 numbers have not been released), well over four million illegal immigrants (4,350,089) have crossed the US/Mexico Border.
So while illegal border crossings have increased by more than 400% under his administration, Biden wants to make it easier and increase the number of migrants we accept.
Keep in mind that he is making this statement after insisting for nearly 2 years that the sudden increase in border crossings has nothing to do with his policies or rhetoric, and that he has said or done nothing to encourage people to make the dangerous journey to attempt to cross into the US illegally.
Oddly enough, during his recent visit to the border in El Paso, TX, a number of migrants along the border cheered President Biden as his motorcade passed by.
So, will 2023 see yet another significant increase in the number of illegal border crossing? After Biden announced to the world that he wants to make it easier for migrants to cross the US border, I think it is a safe bet it will.
