First Biden canceled the Keystone XL Pipeline, then banned new drilling on federal land, and now (surprise) Saudi Arabia is increasing prices AND production of oil to be sold to the US.
The fact is we do not generate enough electrical power to support replacing gas cars with electric (not to mention there are very few public charging stations available), and of course the overwhelming number of power plants still use fossil fuels to generate electricity!
The smart thing would be to build the infrastructure to reduce or even eliminate our need for fossil fuels. Build clean energy production facilities and power plants, build charging stations and produce high capacity batteries that are not made from toxic materials. Reduce fossil fuel production as demand falls off.
Need an example? Australian company called Lavo has created a cabinet sized device that uses solar energy to convert tap water into hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen is released into the air while the hydrogen is stored in fuel cells in a solid state,- eliminating the normally significant fire hazard from storing hydrogen in a gas or liquid form (see “The Hindenburg” for more information on the fire hazards of hydrogen in gas form).
Each battery stores some 40 kilowatt-hours worth of energy, which is enough to run an average home for about two days. The batteries have a product life of about 30 years and are can be recycled. Additionally, the cells in the battery are modular, allowing them to be removed to be used to power other hydrogen-electric machines.
New technologies like this are being developed every day, and are being refined, becoming more affordable, and made using non-toxic materials. Existing technologies are becoming more efficient and less polluting. Reducing oil production without something to take it’s place only increases our dependence on foreign oil, causes prices to go up, and hurts the American people- especially the low-income people Democrats claim they are trying to help!
Biden knows we need to reduce the demand for oil before you reduce production, but he is choosing political expediency over the welfare of the people.
In 2018, for the first time on record, the United States exported more crude oil and fuel than it imported. Fore the first time, the US was NOT dependent on foreign oil. By restricting production, Biden is making the US dependent on other nations for it’s energy needs again.
