You might be shocked to hear this, but Biden was lying about the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
First, he said he had no choice but to withdraw from Afghanistan by Aug 31, 2021 because Trump agreed to withdraw by May 1st.
So how does that make sense? Because Trump agreed to leave Afghanistan by May 1st, Biden had no choice but to leave 4 months later?? (Yes, I know. May 1 to Aug 31 is 1 day shy of 4 months, but I’m calling it 4 months anyway) Biden didn’t even enter into talks with the Taliban until after the May 1st deadline had passed.
Second, the agreement Trump signed not only required the US to leave Afghanistan by May 1st (which Biden violated, and didn’t attempt to honor) but it also required the Taliban to enter into a ceasefire and to negotiate with the Afghan government with the goal of establishing a peaceful government. The Taliban violated that agreement when they started attacking and capturing territory all across Afghanistan.
Third, the agreement specifically promised a military response by the US against the Taliban if they violated the agreement. Biden’s response to the attacks by the Taliban was to pull the American military out of Afghanistan ahead of their advance.
And now Biden is explaining to the country that while he is responsible, it’s all Trump’s fault!
Who knew that when Biden promised to take responsibility for his mistakes, he meant he would take responsibility by blaming others!
